gusa serikali uone (google the phrase)

familiar scenes in nairobi, as allegations of election fraud have began to surface. raila's slim lead over old man kibaki (also called emilio-who knew?) has evaporated, and it seems like we may really be headed to a florida-like situation. the country, however, has spoken out loudly against emilio's governance, as a huge percentage of his ministers have suffered heavy losses, begining with his vice president, moody. this seems to lend credence to the fact that emilio himself may be on his way out. we will soon see. predictions of a bloodless election obviously failed to factor in the fact that (as di caprio would say) 't-i-a, this is africa.' evidently, people in kibera (one of the largest slums in the world, found right in the back yard of state house, the presidential palace in nairobi) are running around with machetes, waiting to erupt, rwanda-style, if their hummer driving mp raila is not pronounced president (as though much would change for them whomever becomes president). anyways, another day in africa. the americans are saying that the election went about as well as could have been expected. guess they're just using their own high standards, reflected by their recent history.

as the world turns.....

by now every one knows bhutto is dead. evidently nobody knows how, though. pakistani officials have already advanced three different causes of death, giving the grassy knoll gunman heady competition in the 'crazy assasination' stakes. more importantly, as this 'democracy' crumbles right before us, another thrives in a non-western region. raila appears to be leading kibaki by about 250 thousand votes with about half the votes counted. kalonzo is out of it, at 3 million votes behind both guys. too bad neither of them took a hummer truck to one of the poorest slums on the planet during their campaigns! kenya appears to have held a second transparent election, and the world outght to be celebrating this marvel. south saharan africa is not known for this kind of thing, but perhaps a few people in florida may have something to learn from a kenyan election. tomorrow we see what happens, and we hope that it does not come down to hanging or dimpled chads.

thanks, mushar-fuck.

closing out the year, musharraf made sure to put an end to his one political nemesis, benazir bhutto, one of the most widely respected politicicans in the world. she'd lived in exile for years because of this crazy fuck, then returned recently to pakistan after brokering with musharraf to return there in a power-sharing deal. of course, ON THE WAY TO HER HOME, having just touched down in pakistan after twelve years away, her convoy was bombed, leaving 138 people dead. musharraf then quickly placed her under house arrest before promptly declaring a state of emergency. i hope the world forces this guy to face his just due. fuck you musharraf, for robbing the world of her. i don't want to hear your empty condolences and promises to 'bring the killers to justice.' in one of her final public statements, while critcizing efforts to find the perpetrators of her failed assasination in october, she had the moral fiber and fortitude to grant mushar-fuck a pass on any culpability in the attack. evidently, that just wasn't enough for him, and he had to see the job through.

back-handed compliment

this man fought for freedoms HE didn't even have in 1944 when he served in the segregated military. back then, enlisting didn't mean you were part of the army of one, there was an army of two: blacks and whites. one night an italian pow was found dead. 41 black guys were charged and found guilty of hanging the italian pow (lucky bastard didn't have to go to gitmo back then). the guys were under-respresented and obviously found guilty. mr. samuel snow was sent up on a 15 month-bid for his non-existent role in the death of the italian. 63 years after this incident that shaped the rest of this guys life, the army made up for their mistake by sending him a $725 check. yes. seven hundred and twenty-five dollars, 63 years late, for wrongfully sending someone to 15 months in prison, and obviously ruining his life in the process.

homeless in seattle

nick licata (white guy, glasses) is almost cerifiably a god. i dare you to find as tireless and useful and advocate and city councilperson as this dude. seattle DOES remain the best place in the USA to be homeless. according to the seatle pi, 'In a unanimous vote, the Seattle City Council on Monday passed a measure that makes harassing a homeless person a hate crime.' is there any other reason why this remains one of the most popular destinations for people in need of social services? sweet jesus, what with the news about crack sentencing and now this, third avenue and pioneer square have to got to be one mad party! now lets just hope spd gets the memo as well, or just reads the paper.

'tis the reason

as always with opression, victims of it have either been minorities, women and/or children. the mess-in-the-middle-east has brought this dynamic very clearly into play. match the face to the story.

a 21 year old american woman, a halliburton/kbr employee, was vaginally and anally gang raped by her fellow employees and held prisoner in a shipping container for 24 hours this past year. the army doctors who performed the positive rape-kit examination inexplicably got it to halliburton/kbr who, of course, has lost it. the guys of halliburton have not been tried, and now she's bringing her case to federal court. she has a shiny 'natalee halloway-esque' face, so MSM should gobble this shit up. expect to see jamie leigh jones on the front of every newspaper, every magazine, and beamed into your living rooms for the next two weeks or so. this wil be HUGE.

we should all remember the five marines who entered a house in mahmoudiya, killed a 14 year old girl's family, gang-raped her, and killed her. the guys then set her body on fire. MSM always reported her as a 25-year old woman until the naggy truth came out. guess it's easier to process the gang rape of a 25 year old woman than a 14 year old girl.

very different is the case of the 19 year old saudi arabian woman gang raped then sentenced by saudi arabian courts to receive 200 lashes of the cane and six months in prison for her crime of getting raped. thank god HER face was all over the media. anyone remember her? exactly.

the glass dick

my intention with this blog is just to keep up with what's going on out there, and see how it relates to the diaspora and to well, my peers and i, really. hot off the presses: the supreme fucking court just determined that the disparity in sentencing guidelines between crack cocaine associated crimes and cocaine powder associated crimes CAN be addressed by federal courts. think about that for a minute. anyone who's been close to this situation for the past 20 years knows that minority populations have largely been targeted through the lack of parity in sentencing guidelines as they are more likely to use and sell crack cocaine than powder, which is used largely by affluent whites. in my time working with homeless people and dudes coming out of corrections, this has been awful to witness. way to go supreme court. a little late, but we'll take it. of course, in addition to alito, uncle clarence was the only other justice opposed to this. way to go, big 'C' little 'larence'! oh, and speaking of prison time and blacks, that black dog-fighting qaurterback has FINALLY been sent to FEDERAL prison for almost two years. now we can all sleep tight, knowing that vick's not breaking into our homes to set our dogs on 'rape-stands.' i hate to say it, but we all know it: all of you high profile blacks out there have been put on notice. you can still be broken any time.
