as the world turns.....

by now every one knows bhutto is dead. evidently nobody knows how, though. pakistani officials have already advanced three different causes of death, giving the grassy knoll gunman heady competition in the 'crazy assasination' stakes. more importantly, as this 'democracy' crumbles right before us, another thrives in a non-western region. raila appears to be leading kibaki by about 250 thousand votes with about half the votes counted. kalonzo is out of it, at 3 million votes behind both guys. too bad neither of them took a hummer truck to one of the poorest slums on the planet during their campaigns! kenya appears to have held a second transparent election, and the world outght to be celebrating this marvel. south saharan africa is not known for this kind of thing, but perhaps a few people in florida may have something to learn from a kenyan election. tomorrow we see what happens, and we hope that it does not come down to hanging or dimpled chads.

What can the world learn from Kenya? Hmm Lets wait and see. Holding my breath. The future is looking mighty orange right about now.
Well lets just hope the economy continues to thrive. One thing that worries me about Kenya is what to do with the millions living under a dollar a day and how to dramatically improve their lives in uh 5 yrs?

august, here's one lesson the country offers the rest of the world. 'if you want untold sums of money, benefits and the ability to shamelessly offer yourself raises whenever you feel like it, join the kenyan parliament. it's really easy, too. all you have to do is sign up to offer a powerful politician your undying patronage and servitude, campaign strictly along ethnic lines (works even for british descendents. just ask leakey), and rent or borrow a really expensive ride like a humvee.' how's that for a lesson? btw, things have heated up like crazy in the country.
